Oppenhoff advises VSE on the decommissioning and dismantling of the Ensdorf power plant

Oppenhoff has advised VSE AG on the decommissioning and dismantling of the coal-fired power plant in Ensdorf, Saarland. The power plant will now be dismantled by 2027 and a new area created for industrial and commercial use.

On 30 June 2024, the cooling tower, two 180-metre and 150-metre high chimneys and the denitrification plant at the Ensdorf power plant were demolished using blasting technology.

The energy supplier VSE AG was founded in Saarbrücken in 1912 and is majority-owned by E.ON SE. Until its decommissioning, the power plant in Ensdorf produced approx. 2,000 GWh of electricity per year over 50 years with an output of 430 megawatts.
