Frankfurt am Main, 20 April 2021 – Oppenhoff partner Dr Markus Rasner has been appointed to the position of Honorary Consul of the Republic of Singapore in Frankfurt am Main.
The appointment by the Government of the Republic of Singapore, with the agreement of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, is with jurisdiction in the German Federal States of Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland. Dr Rasner will support the work of Singapore’s Embassy in Berlin and work alongside Honorary Consul-General Dr Dirk-Lorenz Meyer in Hamburg and Honorary Consul-General Prof. Dr h.c. Dr Rasner, 47, has been admitted to the bar since 2003. He is a member of Oppenhoff’s Corporate / M&A Practice Group and heads the ASEAN and China Desks. Since the early days of his professional career he has advised strategic and financial investors from Asia on their investments in Germany. He spent part of his career in Singapore and has gained a deep knowledge about the region. For many years, Dr Rasner has also been an active member of the German Asia-Pacific Business Association (OAV) and holds a seat in the Executive Board.
Myriam Baars-Schilling, the firm’s chairwoman: “I am very delighted about Markus’ appointment as Honorary Consul and wish him every success for his additional function. The nomination is evidence of our partners’ international activities and our firm’s well established networks all over the world.”
The activities of the Honorary Consul are also to facilitate entry into Singapore of German enterprises interested in expanding into ASEAN, the world’s fifth largest economy, and of Singaporean businesses interested in investing in Germany. In his new role, Dr Rasner, would be honored to help those enterprises in Germany that are interested in expanding its presence to this dynamic region and have not yet established their own contacts there, and vice versa, to support Singaporean companies on their expansion into the German market and beyond in Europe.
The organizational steps have already been taken enabling the Honorary Consulate in Frankfurt to commence traditional consular functions as from April 19, 2021. In view of the prevailing Covid-19 restrictions in Germany, visitors to the Honorary Consulate are reminded to make appointments beforehand. Once the pandemic situation permits, the Singapore government is also planning an official opening of the Honorary Consulate in the presence of representatives of both states, the diplomatic corps and business.
