Also in 2022, Walter Oppenhoff Foundation awards scholarships for outstanding young lawyers
The Walter Oppenhoff Foundation is once again awarding two scholarships for LL.M. studies in the USA this year, thus supporting the extraordinary legal achievements of the two scholarship holders. The Foundation was established in 1996 on the occasion of the 90th birthday of Dr. Walter Oppenhoff, namesake of the commercial law firm Oppenhoff, and supports the international education of German lawyers.
Stephan König, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Walter Oppenhoff Foundation, stated: "We are delighted to be able to support two outstanding young lawyers, Clara Erasmus and Julia Goos, again this year. We wish them a great and successful time in the USA.“
Clara Erasmus studied law at the Westfälische Wilhelms University in Münster, specialising in international law, European law and private international law. She has worked, inter alia, as a research assistant in the antitrust & competition department of an international commercial law firm. Clara Erasmus has also completed specialised foreign language training on common law. She will be pursuing her LL.M. degree at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) School of Law with a focus on entertainment, media and technology law and policy.
Julia Goos studied law at the Humboldt University in Berlin, specialising in immaterial property rights/intellectual property. She has gained extensive experience abroad at the University of Sydney and Queen Mary University of London, among others. She has gained practical insights during internships at international commercial law firms, the German Federal Ministry of Finance and at the Court of Justice of the European Union. She is currently working as a research assistant at the Humboldt European Law School and is completing her doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin. She will be pursuing her LL.M. degree at Columbia Law School in New York City.
The scholarship's namesake, Dr. Walter Oppenhoff, advised numerous international companies over the past century, especially companies based in the USA. Once students have attained their German law degree, the master's programme in the USA enables them to acquire an additional professional qualification in the Anglo-American legal field.
