Dr. Peter Etzbach
LL.M. (Fordham)
Obituary
It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our partner, colleague and friend
Dr. Peter Etzbach, LL.M.
who died suddenly and unexpectedly on 17 March 2024 at the age of 51.
Peter grew up in Cologne where he studied law and obtained his doctorate. He completed a Master's degree (LL.M.) at Fordham University School of Law, in New York, where he was also admitted to the bar.
Peter joined Linklaters Oppenhoff & Rädler in 2004, where he later became Managing Associate. He became partner at Oppenhoff in 2009.
Peter Etzbach was a corporate lawyer through and through. He advised his clients on all types of M&A transactions restructurings and financings, particularly in the venture capital sector. For several years, he has led our Corporate/M&A department. He had a strong focus in the insurance and reinsurance sector.
Peter was a lawyer in the best sense of the word, combining outstanding legal judgement with negotiating skills and entrepreneurial thinking. His ability as a problem solver earned him the loyalty of many clients and colleagues.
As a partner in the firm, he used his empathy to lead a group of many in a common direction. His colleagues appreciated his empathetic, approachable manner, his understanding of day-to-day challenges and his commitment to the entire team.
Peter Etzbach leaves behind his wife and three children. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to them.
We miss Peter very much and will always keep his memory in honour.
